Havel: President, Citizen, Artist

The Václav Havel Library Foundation, in partnership with the Embassy of the Czech Republic, held a program honoring President Havel entitled “Havel: President, Citizen, Artist” at the Czech Embassy in Washington, DC on November 15th.

The evening’s speakers included VHLF Advisory Board Co-Chair and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, VHLF Advisory Board member and President of the National Endowment for Democracy Carl Gershman, former Slovak Ambassador to the US and human rights advisor to President Havel Martin Bútora, and Czech Ambassador to the US Petr Gandalovič. VHLF President Martin Palouš served as moderator for the event.

Events of the evening included a performance by Edward Einhorn’s Untitled Theater Company #61of “Dozens of Cousins,” Havel’s final Vanek play as well as a performance of “Kaleidoscope – A Dramatic View of Václav Havel” by American University students under the direction of Gail Humphries Mardirosian.
