The Long Breakup | A Screening for the People of Ukraine

Saturday, March 26, 6:30 pm |
Bohemian National Hall, 321 E 73rd Street, New York

The Vaclav Havel Library Foundation together with the Bohemian Benevolent and Literary Association, Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York and Diverse Filmmaker Alliance invite you to a screening of The Long Breakup.

The Long Breakup is a feature-length documentary on Ukraine’s struggle to escape Russia’s embrace and become a truly independent nation. The film takes viewers on an intimate journey in exploration of what happens when democracy slips away and a nation must fight for the right to choose its future. Director and DFA member Katya Soldak will be present for a post-film discussion and Q&A. Katya is from Kharkiv, and her family narrowly escaped to Romania as bombardment of Kharkiv began. The talk will be moderated by Irena Kovarova, film curator, writer and owner of Comeback Company.

SUGGESTED MINIMUM DONATION $20 – 100% of the event proceeds will be donated to Razom, a non-profit focused on purchasing medical supplies for critical situations like blood loss and other tactical medicine items. Razom has a large procurement team of volunteers that tracks down and purchases supplies and a logistics team that then gets them to Ukraine. Through multiple meetings a day, Razom is coordinating with several partner organizations worldwide, including Nova Ukraine, United Help Ukraine, Revived Soldiers Ukraine, Sunflower for Peace, and Euromaidan-Warszava.

Diverse Filmmaker Alliance (DFA) is a group of documentary, narrative, experimental, and transmedia filmmakers. We are dedicated to making and collaborating on works that depict communities with an awareness and acknowledgment of the politics and power dynamics inherent in the relationship between a filmmaker and their subject(s).
